S. ORESTIS PALERMOS

Epistemology, Ethics
and Technology

Orestis is an assistant professor of Philosophy at the University of Ioannina, Greece. His research lies at the intersection of philosophy of mind and cognitive science, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of technology and applied ethics.

He explores ways in which philosophy can impact the design of emerging technologies and socio-technical systems, as well as questions concerning the nature of knowledge and the metaphysics of cognition.

Before returning to Greece, Orestis was a permanent lecturer (tenured assistant professor) and then a senior lecturer (associate professor) at Cardiff University; prior to that, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh, wherefrom he also received his PhD and MSc in Philosophy. His undergraduate degree (BSc), which is from the National Technical University of Athens, is in Chemical Engineering.
